Camp Lowden Patches

Naming Conventions

In the world of Scout patch collecting, catalog numbers have been assigned to CSPs (council shoulder patches), Order of the Arrow flaps, and high adventure patches in order to make collecting easier. Individual Scout camps, although prolific patch producers over many decades, rarely earn that level of interest or organization.

Former Lowden and Northwoods staff member Bruce Richardson developed the system of naming conventions that we use today. In addition to Bruce Richardson (BR), Lee Binkley (LB) and Steve Sarver (SMS) have considerable collections and have been valuable sources of information, sequencing, and history. Chris Deering (CD) and Tim Cox (TC) have also graciously provided images of patches.

If you know of a Camp Lowden patch that we do not have on this site, or if you can identify any of those on the "unknown patches" page, please contact us.

LPF-xxxx Felt patches from the 1940-1946 timeframe

LPP-xxxx Patches from the 1947-1976 time frame where no identifying year is visible. This group covers the ubiquitous red, black, white, Indian face patches.

LP-xxxx Patches from the "modern era" (1976 and later) where either a year is indicated or a year can be assigned by those with memories. In this case, a, b, and c will denote variations within a year (e.g., between an "issued" patch and a "trader" patch). If needed, x,y, and z will denote slight variations among patches of the same type.
