Submission Guidelines
“Living Legends of Camp Lowden” History Book

General Guidelines

  • The book is “open-ended.” There is no strict page count, and it will be as long as necessary.

  • All submissions must be in good taste.

  • This is not a “tell-all” book nor should it reveal “staff secrets.”

  • The focus of the book is to illustrate why Camp Lowden is the greatest place on earth!

  • It has always been the author’s belief that the Camp Lowden history is about inclusion, rather than exclusion.

  • As a general rule of thumb, each and every staff member is eligible for inclusion. However, certain conditions may apply, and these guidelines are an attempt to identify and/or clarify these conditions.

  • The author will make the decision as to what is included, how much space to allow, etc.

  • Those who are deemed to have made worthwhile contributions to the camp over a period of many years, or where it would be difficult to fit into a chronological order, may be considered for “spotlight” pages.

  • In order be fair to everyone, and to eliminate the possibility of any divisiveness or “competition” of any kind, the author has been asked that current camp staff members not be included in the book as long as they are on the active staff. The author concurs with this request. However, this does not preclude a staff member from being included in a future edition once they are no longer an active camp staff member.

  • The current camp director and former camp directors may recommend to the author content that should not be included, for various reasons. The author will make the final decision, but will usually honor such requests. It may also be possible for the author and camp director(s) to compromise on wording of submissions.

  • Longevity of staff tenure is considered, but is not a guarantee for inclusion.

  • Any errors, mistakes, omissions, etc., should be brought to the attention of the author as soon as possible for correction in future editions.

  • Expansion of stories, etc., from previous editions is encouraged, as are alternate viewpoints.

Proofing Process

  • All information is cross-checked and verified to the extent of the author’s capabilities.

  • Submissions, especially those which cannot be easily verified, are often sent to others from the same time period that may have knowledge or insight.

  • Information that cannot be verified, as well as recollections and/or items that are considered to be opinions, are usually attributed in the book accordingly.

  • Prior to publication, the author submits the publication, either in parts or in its entirely, for proofing. Some are asked to proof for spelling and grammar; some are asked to proof for compliance with Scouting principles; others are asked to proof for accuracy of events.

  • Feedback is a gift, and the author gives all feedback the utmost consideration when making updates and revisions prior to publication.
